Plans & pricing

Paying raises allowances, not features. Free has no end date and covers personal chats, groups, communities and anonymous rooms. Current prices and allowances are on the pricing page.

The plans

PlanFor
FreeEveryday chats with the people you keep up with. No payment needed
ProOne person, higher allowances
Team / FamilyShared seats for a family or a team. Each member's chats stay their own

Pro and Team / Family raise four allowances: file size, files per chat, how many rooms you can keep, and how long you can keep them. The AChat team sets each plan's allowances.

Paying

You pay on the web, signed in to your account. Choose a plan on the pricing page, then choose how to pay: Bank transfer, or Card when card payment is available.

Bank transfer

  1. Transfer the amount by bank, with the reference the checkout shows in the payment details.
  2. Send your payment request. The AChat team matches each payment to its reference by hand, and your plan shows as waiting until it's confirmed.

Cancel from the pricing page or Account: your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, and no renewal payment is expected.

Card

Card payments are taken by Polar (Polar Software, Inc.), which sells the plan. You enter your card on a page run by Polar, and AChat never receives your card number.

  1. Choose the Payment period: Monthly or Yearly. A plan with no yearly price is paid monthly.
  2. Continue to Polar's page and pay there. Tax may be added on Polar's page, depending on your country.
  3. You come back to AChat, and your plan changes once Polar confirms the payment.

A card payment is a subscription: your card is charged every month or every year until you cancel. Polar's own terms also apply to card payments.

Your subscription

A plan you pay for by card appears under Your subscription in Account, with its plan, period, seats and renewal or end date.

ActionWhat it does
Card and receiptsOpens Polar's page, where you change your card and see receipts
Change seatsChanges the number of seats on a Team / Family plan. You can't go below the seats in use
Change planChanges the plan or the period. Polar works out the price difference for the rest of the period you've paid for, and the change applies once Polar confirms it
Cancel subscriptionYou keep the plan to the end of the period you've paid for, and it doesn't renew
Resume subscriptionBefore that end date, sets the subscription to renew again on the same date

If a renewal payment doesn't go through, you keep the plan for a short while after the paid period ends, then move to the plan you'd otherwise have until a payment goes through. Polar keeps trying the card, and if its tries run out the subscription ends.

In the Android app there is no card payment. A plan paid by card shows there as your plan only, with its end date once it's set not to renew. Everything else about a card subscription is managed on the web.

When a plan ends

  • When a paid plan ends, you move back to Free. Nothing is deleted, everything stays readable and you keep messaging. Until you're back under Free's limits, new files in a chat that's over its limit, and new kept rooms, are refused.
  • Deleting your account ends a paid plan straight away. If you pay by card, the subscription is cancelled at Polar first, so no further payment is taken. If that can't be confirmed, the account isn't deleted.

Team / Family

  • One person, the payer, pays for a minimum number of seats and invites the others by username. Set it up as a Team or a Family; both get the same plan and allowances.
  • Paying doesn't let anyone read other members' messages, chats or location. The payer manages seats and renewal, and that's all.
  • By card, Team / Family is paid per seat: the payer chooses the number of seats, from the plan's minimum.
  • You can belong to one Team / Family group at a time.
  • The payer can make another member the payer, or end the group. Everyone keeps the plan until the paid period ends, then goes back to their own plan, and nothing is deleted. A plan paid by card is managed under Your subscription instead.

Referrals

Share your invite link. When someone creates an AChat account from it and their email is verified, you get points and a badge. Confirmed referrals also add plan months, up to a limit in any 12 months; points and badges keep counting after that. Only new accounts count. If you already have that plan or higher, an earned month starts when your current plan ends.
