Overview
- Introduction
AChat is a messaging app for personal chats, groups, communities and anonymous rooms, on the web and Android. What it does, and what it doesn't promise.
- FAQ
Direct answers about AChat — accounts, encryption, anonymous rooms, how long messages last, plans, location history, account deletion and platforms.
- Changelog
AChat release history — the rebuild that adds personal chats, groups, communities and status, and the earlier releases of the anonymous chat.
Getting Started
- Installation & access
Use AChat in your browser or get the Android app from Google Play. Anonymous rooms need no account; personal chats need a Google sign-in and a username.
- Quick Start
Start your first AChat conversation, with a friend by username or in an anonymous room by link, and save your recovery key.
Features
- Personal chats & contacts
Add people by username, invite link or QR code, handle message requests and blocks, and choose who sees when you're online and whether you send read receipts.
- Devices & recovery key
Link another device to your AChat account, compare security codes, remove a lost device, and use your recovery key to bring your history back.
- Anonymous rooms
How AChat's anonymous rooms work without an account — room IDs, display names, passwords, how long messages are kept, and what anonymous doesn't mean.
- Passwords & encryption
Which AChat chats are end-to-end encrypted, what a room password protects, and the limits — open rooms, communities and status aren't end-to-end encrypted.
- Groups & communities
Private encrypted groups for people who know each other, and communities with channels, threads, roles, reports and bans. Which ones need an account.
- Status
Post a status for your contacts that disappears after 24 hours, choose who sees it, and know that status updates aren't end-to-end encrypted.
- Kept rooms & your account
Keep an anonymous AChat room past its default history, release it, and manage your account — username, data export and account deletion.
- Threads & replies
Reply to a message, or reply in a thread so a side conversation stays in one place. Threads work in chats, groups, rooms and community channels.
- Files, voice notes & media
Share files of any type, photos, videos and voice notes in AChat, within your plan's file allowances, and see where media from a chat is collected.
- Manage messages
Edit, delete, clear, forward, pin and restore AChat messages; per-chat Trash; disappearing messages and view once; polls; archiving chats, messages and replies; saving a copy of a chat.
- Writing messages
Drafts, spoilers, maths, mentions, stickers, dictation, on-device translation and read aloud in AChat, and which of them leave your device.
- Search & offline history
AChat search runs on your device over the messages it holds. Chats you've opened stay readable offline, and messages you write offline wait in an outbox.
- Embeddable widget
Put an AChat anonymous room or community channel on your website, in the page or as a chat button, and choose which websites may show it.
- Notifications & email
AChat notifications are opt-in and never include the message text. Which emails AChat sends to your Google email address, and when.
- Appearance, language & shortcuts
One Appearance panel for theme, colour, text size and motion; five interface languages including Arabic; keyboard shortcuts and focus mode in AChat.
- Privacy on this device
AChat settings that protect a shared or borrowed device — privacy screen, neutral tab title, clipboard auto-clear and Wipe from this device.
- Device & location history
Some AChat chats record device and location history. What's recorded, who can see it, how long it's kept, and how a chat asks before you enter.
- Plans & pricing
AChat's Free, Pro and Team / Family plans, the four allowances they change, how paying by card or bank transfer works, and how referrals earn plan months.
- Page tours and How AChat works
The page tour on Chats, Features, Plans and pricing, Communities and Account, and the six-step How AChat works page.
- Speak, Draft help and Catch me up
Speak turns a recording into text in your message box, Draft help rewrites, shortens or translates your own draft, and Catch me up summarises an open room for you alone.
Concepts
- How AChat works
The two identities in AChat — an account and an anonymous display name — which chat types exist, where messages live, and how long each kind is kept.
- Security & encryption model
What AChat's end-to-end encryption covers and what it doesn't, how keys, linked devices and the recovery key fit together, and the limits no app can remove.
- Admin oversight
What AChat's administrators can and can't see and do — chat details but never messages, reports, suspensions, room restrictions, plan grants — and the action log.
- Data, privacy & deletion
What AChat collects, which services handle it, how long each kind of data is kept, what you control, and what deleting your account removes.
