Moving from WhatsApp to AChat

A messenger tied to your phone number, with backups through Google or WhatsApp's own cloud storage. Choose WhatsApp if the people you talk to are already there and you want voice and video calls. Choose AChat if you want people to find you by username, link or QR code, never a phone number.

Last checked 2026-11-07. The full comparison is on AChat and WhatsApp.

How to move across

  1. Sign in to AChat and pick a username. It asks for no phone number.
  2. Tell the people you talk to on WhatsApp your username, or send them your link or QR code (personal chats and contacts).
  3. Save your recovery key somewhere only you can reach (devices and recovery). It's what brings your history back if you lose every device.
  4. Keep WhatsApp open until the people you need have moved. AChat doesn't import chats from other apps.

AChat has no voice or video calls. Your encrypted history comes back only with another linked device or your recovery key. Lose both, and nobody can restore it, including us.
